Grandmother's recipes and the story of how your parents met. Which vaccine the youngest had, and when. The way your father liked his tea. Families already keep a shared memory — scattered across phones, chat apps, and fading recollection, mostly owned by advertising companies. Here it lives in a node the family runs, speaks your languages, and answers to no one else.
Consent is per-person and per-thing, in both directions. A child's school forms are visible to parents; a teenager's journal is not; what grandmother shares with everyone, she chose to share. The architecture cannot promise the impossible — a story once told is told — but it can make every act of sharing explicit, visible, and revocable where reality permits.

Each member is a complete, sovereign community of one — the family is the links between them, not a container around them. So growing up is architecturally graceful: the child who leaves for university keeps every memory, document, and understanding in their own node, and the bond home simply stretches — a link, not a leash. Marriages link families; moves change nothing; and when someone is gone, what they chose to leave behind remains — belonging to the family, forever, on the family's own terms.
HonestyTested on our own family first
We believe systems like this must be lived in before they are offered. We field-test one opinionated implementation, sathi.ai, on ourselves — the builder, then family, then a small community — in Nepali, Japanese, Hindi and English, with the grandparents very much included. What our own family teaches us becomes this framework.
